Abstract

COMPARATIVE STUDY OF FLOW OF ELASTIC MATERIALS FOR FINAL IMPRESSIONS IN EDENTULOUS PATIENTS ABSTRACT The aim of the present study was a comparative study of flow of elastic masses of the 3rd type of viscosity according to ISO, polyester and polysiloxane materials, used to obtain decompression final impressions in edentulous patients at different periods of "working time". Materials and methods. In the work Impregum Garant L DuoSoft (3M ESPE), Panasil contact plus (Kettenbach) and Speedex Light Body (Coltene Dental) were studied. The "shark fin" method was used to evaluate the flow of the impression materials. Flow was estimated according to the depth of penetration into a wedge-shaped slit (in mm). The research was carried out in 25 seconds after material mixing and at 10 seconds before the "working time" finishing. Results. The highest flow was observed for Impregum Garant L DuoSoft (23.7±0.7 mm), the smallest – for Speedex Light Body (11.0 ±0.3 mm, p˂0.001). The height of "shark fin" for Panasil contact plus was 12.4 ± 0.4 mm. For Impregum Garant L DuoSoft significant flow was observed throughout "working time", decreasing at 10 seconds to its end on 20.0±7.3 %. While for polysiloxanes of both connecting and condensed polymerization type, in 25 seconds after mixing, flow was the highest, and at 10 seconds before the end of the "working time", the loss of flow from the baseline values for Panasil contact plus was decreased on 66.9±8.6 %, for Speedex Light Body – on 68,2±8,5 % (р˂0,001). Conclusions. When receiving a final impression for polyester materials, compression should have a lower intensity, but a longer duration. For silicone masses, metered compression should be carried out within 25 seconds after mixing. In order to obtain a final impression in edentulous patients, polyester materials should be preferred, because their use allows increasing the time of active impression formation in the absence of compression.
