Abstract
The main idea of the article is to present rocket and space terms of foreign origin and to highlight their peculiarities. The task is to characterize the ways of etymology of these terms. To start with, the article deals with the place and role of lexical borrowings in the Ukrainian rocket and space terminology. Moreover, it is stated that words of foreign origin as independent element are the part of complex multicomponent terminological connection. In addition to it, it is pointed out that words of foreign origin, which are the included in the core and periphery of the terminology, where the core is purely space, astronomic and aviation terms, while the periphery is mathematical, chemical, physical, mechanical and other terms. Furthermore, it is shown the etymology of these terms. Also, it is defined that there is a great layer of Greek and Latin origin lexis in rocket and space terminology. It is stressed that there are some borrowings from the English, French and German languages that allows telling about international character of this terminology. Finally, it is mentioned that a certain layer of terms connection has in its composition surnames (the second names) of the foreign origin that is anosmatic marker of the creature. To conclude, it is worth saying that Ukrainian rocket and space terminology is full of words of foreign origin, such as Greek, Latin, English, German, French and others and lots of them are formed with the usage of the foreign second names of people.
