Abstract

Autoimmune thyroiditis is a genetically determined chronic autoimmune disease of the thyroid gland, marked by the production of antibodies to peroxidase, thyroglobulin and characterized by enlargement of the thyroid gland and impaired production of peripheral thyroid hormones. The development of this disease is promoted by various factors, in particular, by genetic predisposition in combination with environmental risk factors.
