Abstract

Under certain conditions, the procedure of surface hardening is often sufficient for the operation of various steel products. The diffusion saturation of the surfaces with a single element cannot meet the practical requirements in numerous cases because it does not guarantee the possibility of getting products with required complex of operating characteristics. Hence, the diffusion saturation of the steel surface is (more and more frequently) performed with several elements simultaneously. It is known that the plastic prestraining of steel activates the process of saturation of its surface [1]. The available information about the effect of plastic prestraining (PP) on the diffusion mobility of carbon is ambiguous. Thus, in [2, 3], the authors indicate that the diffusion mobility of carbon after cold plastic prestraining decreases, whereas in [4], it is shown that the procedure of prestraining increases the indicated parameter.
